A special thanks to one of our superstar Occupational Therapists, Ekaterina Kim, who this evening delivered a PD session on the TAP (Tailored Activity Program)
So what is TAP?
TAP is an evidence-based program designed for people living with dementia and caregivers
It provides a tested protocol to identify interests and abilities of people living with dementia, provision of disease education, and an approach to instructing caregivers (formal and family members) in using selected, tailored activities as part of daily care routines and managing their own distress
Tonight we learned about the program and how it’s implemented, the types of clients (and their caregivers) who would most benefit from this intervention, and how this has changed our OTs everyday approach with people living with dementia…
…this sounds like an amazing opportunity to improve the quality of life for both the person living with dementia and also reduce caregiver burden
(ultimately helping people stay happy and healthy at home for longer 🏡)
Kat, thank you once again, and a special thanks to Shania Roy (another of our OT’s who has completed this program) for “zooming in” to help answer questions and share her experiences
